EMBODYOGA®
Embodyoga® is a healing and evolutionary approach to the yoga practice. It weaves the spiritual essence of yoga and the cutting edge field of somatics and body-mind consciousness. The practice guides us through breath and postures consciously with the intention of staying focused on our internal perception of self and body. Through various embodiment practices within movement and postures we can open to recognize the miracle of our creation manifesting through our form- from the fluid, cellular level to the systems of fascia, organs, glands, muscles, marrow, and bones. My approach with practicing and teaching embodyoga is to incorporate and embrace more fully who we are as spirit expressing through a human life and body.
Direct experience and knowing
When I began taking Embodyoga®classes with founder, Patty Townsend, I realized the difference of learning about anatomy, my body and myself on the conceptual level from learning on the embodied level. For example, it is one thing to have an idea about our spine. It is a whole other level to try to feel the spine and the consciousness of this sacred pillar with wave like curves and to move more directly from this inner perception. This is about the difference of thoughts and belief from direct experience. Through practice and self inquiry we can open our inner senses to feel ourselves and to be more aware of how we are thinking and how we are moving. This is presence and it is the counter to being stuck in our habits of thinking, believing and moving. When we leave habits, we open to the moment, more present, more stable in ourselves and bodies, and we can embrace the unknown and our life as it unfolds in time.
We as humans on earth have a collective history of seeing the physical world as an object. This includes how we perceive and move in our bodies and also how treat the earth. Yoga views the world as energy, something that modern science has recognized as well. In my experience, within the perceived separate physical world is a conscious, loving energy. Our creator, the mother of life, the goodness of creation. The embodyoga practice is a way to recognize the sacredness of form, of our bodies, of our lives, or our actions. Everything we do has an effect on the whole because we are part of it. May we engage more directly with purity of awareness manifesting, rather than staying more on the surface of ourselves.
Embodyoga® practice is supported by these three pillars:
Embodied Inquiry™ - an exploration of all layers of our form through the body’s systems to the cellular and subtle pranic levels of consciousness
Santosha- radical self acceptance. Acceptance of what is. Non reacting, a foundation in which to see clearly so we may know the path forward with our preconceived ideas and habits influencing us from the past.
Viveka -sacred discernment. When journeying into our deeper selves we learn to see and let go of what is not us, what is not true, what is not of love. In the many layers of our bodies and consciousness there are embedded energies of opposition- like fear, anger, doubt, self negation that need to be seen but not identified with. We are whole and of love.
My hope is as we connect and embody our divine core we realize our interconnection with the divine in all of life, in every human, every life form, including the Earth. This is our call to heal and continue to evolve.
